What we collect and why
The free check
Flight number, date and disruption type, plus a one-way hash of your IP address to stop abuse of the flight data quota. No name, email or account. The result is stored against a random reference so the page can be reopened.
If you buy
Your name, postal address, email, booking reference and passenger names, because they go in the letter. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach us. We use the email to deliver your documents and to answer questions about the order. We do not send marketing.
After a purchase we email you about 4, 8 and 12 weeks later to ask how the claim is going and to point you to the next step if the airline has not paid. These stop as soon as you tell us the outcome.
Flight Watch
Your email address and the flights you add (flight number, date, optional departure airport and number of passengers). We email you once to confirm the address, then after each flight with the result of its check. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops all of them. If you paste a booking confirmation to fill in the flights, its text is sent to Anthropic to pick out the flight numbers and dates and is not stored.
Lawful basis
Performance of a contract for the purchase and for Flight Watch; legitimate interests (fraud prevention, service operation and counting visits) for the check, the IP hash and analytics.
Retention
Check results: 12 months. Orders and documents: 6 years, matching the limitation period for the claim they support, so you can come back to them. You can ask us to delete an order sooner once you have your copy.
Processors
Stripe (payments), Supabase (database, EU region), Vercel (hosting), Resend (email), Anthropic (drafting the letter text from the facts you supply, and reading a pasted booking confirmation for Flight Watch; no training on your data), AeroDataBox (flight lookups by flight number and date only, no personal data sent), Google (Google Analytics, counting visits), Cloudflare (forwarding email sent to our address).
Your rights
Access, correction, deletion, restriction and portability under UK GDPR. Email hello@flightdelaycheck.co.uk. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by a code) to count visits and see which pages are used. Before anything is sent to Google we remove the private reference from result, letter and Flight Watch links, so Google never sees which check or order is yours. You can block these cookies in your browser settings or with Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. A session cookie may also be set by Stripe during checkout.
