TUI Airways delay compensation: check your flight against the record

TUI Airways is a UK carrier. Flights out of the UK are covered by UK261 whatever the destination, and flights into the UK are covered too, from anywhere in the world.

Enter the flight number and date. We pull the actual arrival time, the Eurocontrol air-traffic delay logged at both airports that day and the airport weather, then tell you whether TUI owes you £220, £350 or £520 per passenger and how strong the airline's likely defence is.

The day the flight was due to leave, in local time where it left. For an overnight flight, that is the evening you set off.

What to know about claiming from TUI

  • TUI Airways (BY) is a UK carrier. Its long-haul holiday routes to Mexico, Florida, the Caribbean and the Maldives all exceed 3,500 km, so the £520 band applies to most of them.
  • TUI publishes a flight delay compensation page and a form. Package holiday customers claim the flight compensation from TUI Airways exactly as flight-only passengers do.
  • The CAA lists TUI Airways with AviationADR.

If TUI refuses or does not answer within 8 weeks: The CAA lists this airline with AviationADR. Free to you. You can go there once the airline has given a final answer, or has not answered within 8 weeks of your written complaint, and its decision binds the airline if you accept it.

Use the claim page above and a free template from the CAA, Which? or MoneySavingExpert. Our £4.99 letter adds the verified flight record and the day's delay and weather evidence, which is what you will need if TUI replies with “extraordinary circumstances”. Claims firms charge 35% to 50% of the payout for the same claim.

TUI compensation questions

Answers people search for

How much does TUI pay for a delayed flight?

£220 (up to 1,500 km), £350 (1,500 to 3,500 km) or £520 (over 3,500 km, reduced to £260 for a 3 to 4 hour arrival delay), per passenger, for delays of 3 hours or more within TUI's control. A family of four on a delayed Cancun flight is owed £2,080.

I booked a TUI package. Who do I claim from?

TUI Airways as the operating carrier for the UK261 compensation. Your package rights against TUI as the organiser are separate and cover the holiday, not the fixed flight compensation.

Does TUI's delay compensation depend on the fare I paid?

No. The amounts are fixed by distance and are the same whether the flight was part of a £300 package or a £3,000 one.

Where do I go if TUI refuses?

AviationADR, free, after a final response or 8 weeks. After two hours on a short-haul flight (three on medium-haul, four on long-haul) you are owed meals, drinks and two calls or emails, and a hotel with transfers if you are stuck overnight. Keep every receipt; these are refundable on top of any compensation.
